Homework
Knowledge Organisers and Homework
Students are given a knowledge organiser pack each half term. In this pack students can find a knowledge organiser for each subject and homework tasks to complete at the back. Each weekly homework task corresponds to what students are learning in lessons.
A knowledge organiser is a concise and structured resource that summarises the key information, concepts, and facts students need to learn about a particular subject. Students can use the knowledge organiser to help complete their homework. Students in KS3 (Y7 - Y9) should dedicate 15–20 minutes per homework task each week, while those in KS4 (Y10 - 11) are expected to spend 20–30 minutes. Students can access the knowledge organisers on the school website under the Curriculum tab or collect a printed pack from their pastoral mentor to take home.
Purple Books
All students at Springwest are given a purple book to complete their homework. Students are expected to have their purple books with them at all times in their school bag. This ensures they have a designated place to complete their homework, both during prep and at home.
Prep
Students have a 50 minute prep session every morning Monday to Thursday. During these sessions, students have PSHE, assembly and can also attend PE prep. This is not the only time where students should be completing homework. Students may have the opportunity to add some finishing touches or do one to two full pieces of homework but in general, the expectation is for students to complete homework at home.
Library/ Study Space
If students require a quiet space to complete their homework, they are welcome to use the library or the study space. The library is open every morning from 8:30am, except on Wednesdays. It is also available during break and lunch, as well as after school until 5pm, with the exception of Fridays. The study space is available anytime outside of lessons.
