Ofsted and Inspections
Behaviour and Attitudes Inspection
On Monday 13th January we welcomed external inspectors to our school to review our Behaviour and Attitudes. We were delighted to receive a glowing report that demonstrates how far we have come since our Ofsted in 2023. Please see below for comments from the inspectors.
"There is a strong sense of belonging at the school, both students and staff are proud of their School.’"
"A relentless and creative approach to behaviour and attitudes has led to a safe, calm, orderly and positive school environment. School leaders have taken bold measures to transform the school culture, where students attend, engage and learn in a fair and positive culture."
"Students are complimentary about school life, behaviour and safety. They are confident that they are supported through a range of interventions and the consistent availability of staff including tutors, pastoral mentors and heads of year."
"The Springwest School Council is seen as a strength by students allowing them to give feedback to the leadership, where the impacts of their views can be seen in areas of the school such as the improved uniform standards. Students speak enthusiastically about the character curriculum and how students are active participants in a strong, positive and ever-evolving behaviour culture."
"The school felt calm and orderly at all points of the day, including during less structured times, and there were a good number of staff on duty monitoring key areas. There is a positive, happy atmosphere, with students chatting with each other and with staff."
"Anti-bullying Ambassadors from each year group support the staff team in promoting the positive ethos and culture of the school, and being firm that bullying in any form will not be tolerated."

OFSTED
Following our Ofsted inspection on 13th and 14th March 2023, we have now received the final report and are able to share this with you. To access it, please click on the link at the bottom of this page. This was a full Section 5 inspection which means that we received graded judgements about the school.
I am very pleased to say that Springwest was judged by the inspection team to be a Good school. Here are some of the highlights of what they observed during their visit:
“This is an inclusive school. Staff support pupils well so that they can succeed.”
“Teachers have high expectations of what pupils can achieve. Pupils work well in class and are keen to learn”
“Low-level disruption in lessons is rare. Staff use the behaviour policy consistently in classrooms. As a result, pupils know how to behave in class and they follow the school rules.”
“The safeguarding team work effectively together to keep pupils safe. They are quick to identify and address any concerns.”
“Leaders ensure that subject content is taught in a logical sequence. This helps pupils to build up their knowledge and skills over time.”
“Leaders ensure that reading is a priority across the school. Pupils enjoy lessons in the library and time for independent reading each day.”
“Pupils have opportunities to explore a range of cultures and different viewpoints.”
“Pupils receive a wealth of useful careers information and guidance.”
However, the inspection team struggled to understand and appreciate the difference between the excellent behaviour we consistently see in lessons and the less good pockets of behaviour we sometimes experience outside of lessons. We do acknowledge this through our own evaluations and will continue to take action in this area of improvement. We are also looking to increase our student voice provision so we can continue to dig deeper into students’ viewpoints, understand their concerns and continue to work hard to ensure that nothing prevents any student from accessing a great education.
As I have always said, we are not driven by Ofsted and we will continue to do what is best for staff, students and the community. We believe everyone deserves ‘Great lessons - every period, every day’ and are proud that we make a difference to the families we serve.
