A group of Year 8 students enjoyed a reward trip to Kew Gardens to celebrate their hard work and enthusiasm in Geography. The visit was linked to their recent learning on tropical rainforests, giving students the opportunity to experience many of the plants and environments they had studied in the classroom. During the day, students took part in an engaging educational workshop, where they explored the importance of tropical rainforests, their uses, their biodiversity and the need to protect these vital ecosystems.

When asked to reflect on the trip this is what some students had to say:

"I loved when we saw the two glasshouses, the Temperate and the Tropical. Although my favourite part of the trip was when we got to relax in nature. It was very hot that day but when we relaxed in the shade, the breeze cooled me down a lot. I also loved when we were very high up on the treetop walk. Not only could we see nature, but we also saw parts of the City of London" Alexis S

"On the Kew Gardens trip we saw many plants. An example was giant bamboo. This is a type of grass. Also, the giant bamboo can grow extremely fast in about 16 days. This was found in the Tropical House. The climate was extremely humid, just like the environment in the rainforest" Rianne R

Despite the hot weather, students made the most of the sunshine and represented the school brilliantly throughout the visit. It was a fantastic day of learning beyond the classroom and a well-deserved reward for their hard work and positive attitude.
