Ofsted
Following our Ofsted inspection on 13th and 14th March 2023, we have now received the final report and are able to share this with you. To access it, please click on the link at the bottom of this page. This was a full Section 5 inspection which means that we received graded judgements about the school.
I am very pleased to say that Springwest was judged by the inspection team to be a Good school. Here are some of the highlights of what they observed during their visit:
- “This is an inclusive school. Staff support pupils well so that they can succeed.”
- “Teachers have high expectations of what pupils can achieve. Pupils work well in class and are keen to learn”
- “Low-level disruption in lessons is rare. Staff use the behaviour policy consistently in classrooms. As a result, pupils know how to behave in class and they follow the school rules.”
- “The safeguarding team work effectively together to keep pupils safe. They are quick to identify and address any concerns.”
- “Leaders ensure that subject content is taught in a logical sequence. This helps pupils to build up their knowledge and skills over time.”
- “Leaders ensure that reading is a priority across the school. Pupils enjoy lessons in the library and time for independent reading each day.”
- “Pupils have opportunities to explore a range of cultures and different viewpoints.”
- “Pupils receive a wealth of useful careers information and guidance.”
However, the inspection team struggled to understand and appreciate the difference between the excellent behaviour we consistently see in lessons and the less good pockets of behaviour we sometimes experience outside of lessons. We do acknowledge this through our own evaluations and will continue to take action in this area of improvement. We are also looking to increase our student voice provision so we can continue to dig deeper into students’ viewpoints, understand their concerns and continue to work hard to ensure that nothing prevents any student from accessing a great education.
As I have always said, we are not driven by Ofsted and we will continue to do what is best for staff, students and the community. We believe everyone deserves ‘Great lessons - every period, every day’ and are proud that we make a difference to the families we serve.
