What Set You On The Path To Teaching?

I’d always wanted to do something impactful. My parents were both involved in careers that tried to help and support others, and so from a young age I wanted to do the same. When I was finishing university, there was a friend of a friend who said he was going into teaching via the Teach First Programme. I’d never really thought about it, but after a few conversations I was convinced. Best decision I ever made!

What Was It That Attracted You To Working At Springwest Academy?

Having been born in West London I was more familiar with the area. The vision and culture of the school was moving in a really interesting direction and I wanted to be part of it. There was also the chance to work with a diverse group of colleagues, both in age and experience, who were building a really rich and powerful curriculum. Finally, the opportunity to teach ambitious and talented students from a range of backgrounds, and supporting them to develop their life opportunities - that’s what it's all about!

What do you like most about teaching your subject?

I’m passionate about English and its ability to help develop students’ opinions about the world. It's a wonderful opportunity for students to hone their curiosity and think deeply and critically about big issues. The skill of reading and writing to a high level is so important in the modern world and the amazing range of texts we teach allow students to harness their potential. I particularly enjoy teaching poetry!
