Knowledge Organisers
Each department has carefully designed a Knowledge Organiser for each subject per half term. Knowledge organisers are a concise, structured overview of the key facts, concepts and information of a particular topic.
Knowledge Organisers include key content often displayed in the form of diagrams, tables, timelines, key vocabulary and key questions.
Students are given a copy of the Knowledge Organiser in their homework packs and are also provided with another copy that they stick in their books. Students can take a Knowledge Organiser pack home and also access a digital version on the school website.
In addition to using the Knowledge Organisers to complete their homework tasks, students can use the KOs in a variety of ways to enhance their learning and improve retention of important concepts. These strategies are listed below.
- Self Testing and Quizzing: For example, students can test their understanding by recalling key sequences, timelines or completing blank grids.
- Revising key concepts: Students can transform key terms or concepts into flashcards, mindmaps etc. This can help with active recall.
- Summarise Information: Students can create a more concise version of the KO with only the most essential information, focusing on core ideas.
By engaging in these strategies, students will develop their understanding and memory in all subjects.
