School Centred Learning - Summer Institute

In the first week of July, Springwest hosted 38 trainees from Teach First who spent 5 days working with teachers from our school, together with the Teach First Leads. The Teach First trainees had the opportunity to practise their emerging teaching skills and observe excellent teaching. The trainees experienced our ‘culture of kindness’ first hand, embraced the feedback and support from their mentors and mentioned students’ welcoming nature, politeness and the learning environment as one of the biggest positives of the school. 

‘…thank you for all your help throughout this week, and it was really great to get to know the school and staff better! Everyone has been so welcoming and generous, for both their time and (of course) the coffee/ snacks/ lunches - thank you.

The trainees could not have been luckier to do their School Centred Learning at Springwest Academy – they have been exposed to so much outstanding teaching practice, and they have been able to experience so many different teaching scenarios themselves, that has set them up in the best possible way for September.

Really welcoming, helped to ease the nerves of teaching for the first time, all staff were so friendly and welcoming (especially in helping for directions), all staff really embraced the positive culture of the school. Thank you so much for delivering such a lovely SCL experience, and I feel more confident heading into teaching.’
