Principal's Welcome
We make a difference every day.
I am extremely proud to be the Principal of Springwest Academy, a vibrant, mixed comprehensive school serving the local community of Feltham. Having been in post since September 2020 it has been a pleasure to witness how Springwest has developed and improved. My personal priorities; A culture of kindness, strong academic outcomes and excellent behaviour have inspired positive changes in both our GCSE results and our school culture. We are now a ‘School of Character’ with a strong sense of belonging, where students and staff flourish.
We pride ourselves on providing an ambitious, rigorous, knowledge-rich curriculum and introduce students to challenging and thought-provoking content from the start of Year 7. In addition to knowledge, we see ‘understanding’ and ‘memory’ to be at the heart of learning and therefore students are given opportunities for extended writing, discussions and retrieval practice within all of their subjects. At Springwest we have also developed Prep sessions which allow students to start the day in a purposeful manner by either reading, using their knowledge organisers or attending a co-curricular PE session.
Our new values of ‘Believe’, ‘Belong’ and ‘Flourish’ are embodied in all that we do. These values are complemented by our Character Framework which develops the four virtue groups: Moral, Intellectual, Civic and Performance. We provide students with many opportunities to develop their characters through explicit Character Education lessons at KS3, a wide range of co-curricular activities, opportunities on Character Days and time for reflection and gratitude during termly Reflection Weeks.
We stretch and challenge the more able and have developed our Scholars’ Programme to inspire ambition and broaden knowledge beyond the curriculum. Student Leadership is integral to our school community and culture. In addition to our Head Students and Prefects, we have Heads of House, a Student Council, Creative Arts Specialists, Sports Leaders, an Eco-Committee, Anti-Bullying Ambassadors and Library Monitors. Students at all levels of leadership are invited to join the ‘Leadership Academy’ an initiative run by our SLT which develops moral leadership skills and empowers students to become effective leaders.
We are an inclusive school and have a strong pastoral support system, including a designated member of the Senior Leadership Team, Head of Year and Pastoral Mentor for each year group. Students with SEND or EAL are well supported by specialist teachers within mainstream lessons and smaller numeracy and literacy groups. In addition, we have two Local Authority resourced Centres which provide provision for students with physical disabilities and Autism.
We are fortunate to have beautiful outdoor spaces which include both raised and sunken gardens as well as playing fields, two astro pitches and a MUGA. Our outstanding facilities are regularly used by the local community at evenings and weekends.
I would encourage you to have a look around our website and contact us if you would like to visit.
