Our Year 8 Character lessons are based on the Classical Trivium.
In classical education, scholars were taught three subjects; grammar (meaning knowledge and facts), dialectic (questioning) and rhetoric (communicating). Our students explore virtuous behaviour through these three teaching/learning methods.
Year 8 students are introduced to the philosophy of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle including Socratic questioning and the debate between rationalism and empiricism. They also have the opportunity to learn about and discuss different ethical theories, from Kant to the Utilitarians.
The Trivium- 'pursuit of a good life'.
